Loni Marches On Disney!

The McGuffey High School band marched in the 3pm parade today at Disney's Magic Kingdom.

Tay and I took a mini vacation away from the snow to see Loni's color guard performance with the band.

We didn't exactly get weather we wanted. It rained most of the trip but Loni had a blast at all the Disney parks and the band did the school proud!

All in all, a very enjoyable trip to see our sweetie and when we got back to Washington, PA, we could actually see the ground! Yes!

Minnie and Pearl Out With Churkey!

Finally, we're getting some snow melt here with the temperature ringing in the 40's.

Today marks a month since the Feb 5th/6th blizzard ended. In some ways it seemed like a year!

We lost power and water for three days, ran out of propane for the furnace last week, during the mini-storm that made our driveway impassable and ran out of wood under the porch for the woodburner a day later.

We had another store of wood in the fire pit area but it was covered with 4 feet of piled snow. We had to dig it out and carry it to the basement when the Big Red got stuck in the snow.

Jeez, what a month! I'm glad to see it end. Apparently Churkey feels the same way, as she strutted out her 10 week old chicks for a stroll.

Charlie Rangel, (D-NY), House Chairman of the Ways and Means Commission.

That means that he is in control of the administration of all tax bills written in the federal legislative branch. That is even an oversimplification of his role.

Problem is, he knows absolutely jackshit about his job.

In the past few years he's come up on tax evasion charges related to properties that he "forgot he owns" and didn't pay taxes on them as well as an assortment of other tax issues.

His response? He said he didn't understand the tax code and made an honest mistake.

Hello? This guy, not only a fucking tax dodging cheat, also claims ignorance to the process for which his chairmanship is based?

Surely, he would have been forced to resign his chairmanship at the very least and be faced to answer ethical violations for knowingly hiding wealth from the federal government.

Nope.

Now, today, it comes out that the guy received trips to the Caribbean paid for by unnamed corporate sources. A direct violation of House ethics, and you know what his response was? Here is an excerpt from the Wall Street Journal:

After several months of investigation, the ethics panel determined Mr. Rangel didn't inform the ethics committee of the corporate source of funds for trips that took place in 2007 and 2008. The panel determined his staff knew the trips were paid for by corporations, and found that Mr. Rangel—who says he didn't know—should still be held accountable, officials said.

Mr. Rangel, central player in Congress on tax and health care legislation, called a news conference late Thursday and said there is "nothing in the record" to indicate he knew the source of funding for the trips, and questioned whether members of Congress should be held accountable for errors by their staff, the Associated Press reported.

Of course there is "nothing in the record" implicating him. This guy is a crook and the lowest of low scumbags.

He has the audacity once again to feign ignorance.

Usually, when people go on expensive trips, they know who is paying for them. Charlie must have just assumed that he fucking "owns the Caribbean"!

And who does he blame? His staffers. That's a real class move. He basically outed the people that have to put up with him on a daily basis as a bunch of dumbasses that just don't know better.

Of course once again, he'll escape any liability from the Democrat controlled Ethics committee. Some people are pushing for him to give up his chairmanship of the Ways and Means.

He should of lost that last time. This guy should be asked to step down as House Rep for the State of New York and charges against him should be pressed.

How can we expect any sort of meaningful change in Washington, when we do nothing to reign in it's biggest scumbags?

Loni, My NY Rangers Good Luck Charm!

Loni and I went to the Pens-Rangers game tonight and were treated to one heck of a game.

Loni, who was born in that magical NY Ranger year of 1994 has consistently brought the team luck, even though she is a self avowed Penguins fan.

She did her magic again tonight as Ollie Jokinen scored about a minute or so into the overtime period to give the Blueshirts the 3-2 victory!

We even saw a Matt Cooke-Chris Drury mini-fight.

Bluey's World Obituary: John Murtha

The US economy just got a much needed improvement with the death of John Murtha yesterday.

No longer does the rest of the country have to foot the bill for all his earmark pork.

He was the classic example of what is wrong with the government. He believed that the US taxpayer worked to provide his pet projects. He was excellent at providing the grift for his constituents and never met a pork filled bill he didn't like.

He also was a Vietnam veteran who had a piss poor record supporting our troops. He viewed the US itself as the greatest threat to world peace. What a putz!

I find it very ironic that he trusted a military hospital with his gall bladder surgery after all the bad juju he brought on our troops. His surgery was botched at the Bethesda Naval Hospital which resulted in his death.

District 9 Stole Two Hours of My Life!

Oh my God, I just wasted two hours of my life! What a horrendous movie. Every once in awhile a movie is released with tons of fanfare and bamboozles the masses. This is one of those movies. The only thing I can imagine is that it is hailed as some sort of allegory on racism. If that's true, it fails miserably and is downright insulting. Don't waste your time if you haven't already seen it...I was so prepared to love this movie, but the story seemed like it came out of the mind of an eight year old. I can't believe peter Jackson associated himself with this tripe.

***WARNING: PLOT SPOILERS***

So, if the fine folks of South Africa made contact with an alien race with technology that far exceeds our own, they'd herd them all together, make no attempt to "connect" with them other than by "evil medical experimentation". Somehow, they''d learn their language, but nothing about their culture or where they came from. Not to mention that no nations other than South Africa would even become involved in the process of housing them.

They'd treat them like children and zoo animals and place them in a walled ghetto with free access to dangerous regional warlords, who apparently trade cat food for alien weapons. You heard it right...they allow the aliens to keep all of their dangerous weapons (not to mention the command module of the mothership, which in 28 years is never found?), or that we have to assume they are building weapons from scratch from garbage and used tin cans or whatever the local warlord gives them (like all the random computer parts).

The aliens are obviously extremely intelligent and dangerous. The movie's super simple plot line involves the relocation of the aliens a couple of miles down the road to...get this...District 10!. No, I am not kidding you.

Officials naively walk up to the dangerous aliens in order to get their signatures to move them, uh, right after flame broiling their babies right in front of them? If you are flame torching their babies, why are you worrying about getting their okay on relocation?

This movie was so incredibly ridiculous and childishly conceived, it's laughable. Does humankind even worry that with the alien technology, another ship arriving to our planet would probably have the capacity to wipe us out? Duh....but I guess we're all a bunch of mad, alien killing retards on this planet...

Notice to alien species...humans only have the capacity to treat your race with dignity for a few years. By year 28, we'll be murdering them and their babies, but we'll have them fill out the proper forms before we do!

As much as I disagree with President Barack Obama's policies, I can't take folks seriously when they carry around the picture on the left with Mr. Obama done up as the Joker from "The Dark Knight" movie.

US Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart once said "I can't define pornography, but I know it when I see it". I get a pit in my stomach and feel the same way about racism when I see images of the white-face Obama on protest signs. It just doesn't smell right at all. C'mon people, you are better than that.

First Day Free Ranging!

Churkey's December 26th hatchlings were finally ready for prime time today as we had a nice warm day and there were no longer the extra roosters to harrass them!

At about 4 weeks old, the pair enjoyed stretching their legs outside for the first time and go from the brooder cage in the garage to officially free ranging chickens. Mom showed them how to find bugs and both enjoyed their first worms!

This woman was absolutely prepared to push through the Senate version of the ObamaCare bill in the House right on the heels of the Scott Brown win in Massachusetts.

Much like her claim that failure of passing the stimulus bill was going to result in 500 million jobs lost (there are only 300+M people in the entire US), Nancy isn't too good at math. With large groups of progressives and Stupak ammendment Democrats, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that they would lose more than 4 votes trying to pass it. I'm guessing that they are at least 30-40 votes short.

Just yesterday, she claimed that they would move forward regardless. Today, she's saying there is no rush. What a moron! Silence is better than outright ignorance, Nancy.

Pelosi's remarks signaled that advancing health legislation through Congress will likely be a lengthy process — despite Democrats' desire for a quick election-year pivot to address jobs and the economy, which polls show are the public's top concern.

"We're not in a big rush," Pelosi said. "Pause, reflect."

Scott Brown (R) did what was thought to be impossible last night.

As a Republican/Independent, he won the Senate seat claimed by Democrats to be Ted Kennedy's seat.

In doing this, he has, in effect, thwarted the irresponsible ObamaCare bill and will also put an end to dreams of a whole host of bad bills such as Cap and Trade, Stimulus III, Amnesty for Illegals, etc..., not to mention granting terrorists the rights of US citizens.

Americans, as judged by the reaction by voters in blue state, Massachusetts, have finally decided that enough was enough.

Praise Jesus!

This is not to say that Democrats won't continue to press on these bad bills and ram ObamaCare down our throats, but now we know what the ramifications of these actions will be.

Obama's Goose Cooked: Blame Al Franken?

Obviously, Barack Obama has no one to blame but himself, but I'll make the claim that Al Franken provided the ignition to Obama's Titanic collapse. Well, even I admit, that is a bunch of bullshit.

Elected in on a wave of optimism and a thirst for change, Americans chose to look past the fact that President Obama had zero experience tangible to the presidency. No executive experience, less than a year in the Senate and never had to make a payroll in his life. He came in promising to be a bipartisan reformer and that the glow of transparency would expose all Washington, DC politicians for the self serving cronies that they were. Interestingly enough, Nancy Pelosi brought a broom into the House of Representatives when she was announced as Speaker of the House, promising to sweep out all the "political debris" and clean up that branch of government.

We were supposed to get a fresh start and a change in the way things are done in Washington DC's inner sanctum.

It never happened.

Although you can make a case that it is Al Franken's fault. I don't think that I believe this. I sort of think that we would have gotten the same result albeit it may have taken much longer to get here. Instead of taking on massive amounts of water early, we probably would have had a slower leak that would have achieved the same result.

My theory is that once Al Franken was announced as the 60th Democratic senator, the Obama administration huddled up and gave up any illusions of bipartisanship. It saw a supermajority as a once in a lifetime chance to push through every piece of garbage legislation they could. Every Democratic wish list was going to come to fruition by hook or by crook, damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. The Republicans were powerless to stop them, they figured. Hell, they didn't even invite Republicans into the chambers to craft the bills. They locked the doors and went it alone. The only lip service they gave to Republicans was to complain about them being the "Party of No".

Problem is...they forgot about the American people and what they wanted. The US citizen is who Obama should have been concerned with, not Republicans. Instead, Obama decides to embrace the lunatic far left wing of the party, who disregard US citizens as mouth breather hate monger racists.

They treat Americans as badly as they treat the Republicans.

They bailed out banks, insurers, and the auto industry unions. They passed a stimulus bill laden with every perceivable Democrat wish list item even though Obama promised to go through the bills line by line and veto earmarks. They passed Cap and Trade in the House in order for Obama to look good in Copenhagen for the Climate meeting. It failed miserably and the bill is almost unpassable as written in the Senate. Obama's Attorney General, Eric Holder, decided to try terrorists, starting with KSM in American courts and granted them the rights of US citizens. He offered us no real reasoning for doing this. I guess Americans aren't smart enough to know the difference. Then came healthcare, the largest piece of garbage that US legislation has ever seen. To get it passed, so many Democratic special interests and politicians had to be bribed just to support it.

And as each cog was added to the machine, concerned Americans started taking to the streets. Just a handful here and there at first, then little by little the Tea Party movement was born and started to grow as spending pushed into the trillions.

Did the President address their concerns? Nope, not at first. First, Obama turned the mainstream media and his staff on them. Calling old men and ladies, stay at home moms, students and many of the middle class who showed up to protest: astroturf of the extreme right wing of the Republican Party. Nancy Pelosi had very unkind words for them. Liberal TV talking heads started calling them "teabaggers". Never thought I'd see the day, that mainstream television would use the term teabagger on the news. Janet Napolitano said that the biggest threat to national security would be our own returning GI's who could be recruited into some sort of ultra right wing army.

I can go on and on and cite so many more Obama administration folks who said similar things. It's truly embarrassing.

The supermajority went to Obama's head and now he's hit an iceberg called Scott Brown, the soon to be senator of Massachusetts, who will replace Ted Kennedy. Democrats are aghast that a Republican is on the verge of winning a senate seat in a place that there hasn't been a sitting Republican senator since the 70's.

But, just like a drunk who is convinced that one more drink will cure the hangover, they look for other ways to push through a healthcare bill that doesn't even garner 40% of the popular vote. Instead, they blame Martha Coakley for not campaigning correctly or not being a good enough candidate. Maybe they are right as Martha makes a comment that the Taliban is no longer in Afghanistan on a day that Kabul is burning from a Taliban offensive. But, in fairness to Coakley, I'd say that Obama is the anchor sinking her campaign.

Even now, Democrats don't see the writing on the wall. The CNN, MSNBC and major networks are presenting this election as angry voters tired of corruption in the state. Under no circumstance is this election a referendum on Obama. Well, they can delude themselves all they want. We know the truth. So do they. They talk about it in the backrooms, believe me.

Scott Brown will win and thwart healthcare, whether by his vote or in a groundswell to fight ObamaCare through the courts.

And in November 2010, a huge amount of Democrats are going to lose their jobs. Not because the Republicans are better candidates but simply because the Democrats decided to shit on rank and file Americans in 2009 to push their agendas, no matter what the cost (jobs, higher taxes).

Americans don't like being railroaded.

Prepare for a major shitstorm on Tuesday and in 2010.

Say What You Want About Fox News...

The simple fact of the matter is that across the cable new networks, America clearly prefers Fox News by HUGE margins even though the Democrats will have you believe that Conservatism and the Republican Party is dead in the U.S. These numbers (pulled from this past Monday) are apparently indicative of what the numbers have been like for the past eight years. Even if you add up the liberal leaning cable news networks, in many cases they don't touch the ratings on Fox News.

I actually found this to be pretty shocking because I would have believed that people just don't care about issues that are purposefully not covered on left leaning news networks. I'm surprised that many of the liberal pundits are able to stay employed while routinely getting their asses kicked on a nightly basis.

This definitely restores my faith in the overall intelligence of news watchers. I watch the other news channels from time to time and find them to be incredibly lacking and downright insulting. Lazy journalism runs rampant on these networks that mainly broadcast the news that is presented to them as fact. Investigative journalism has been replaced by personal smears and attacks. Sometimes, it is even directed at fellow liberals, such as Joe Liebermann's wife when Joe failed to fall in line on ObamaCare.

Keith Olbermann is a pretentious jackass and Rachel Maddow... I get it...you're gay and feel that anyone who doesn't support the gay right cause of the day, is a bigoted moron. They both claim that the Tea Party movement is funded by Big Pharma/Insurance companies. They also believe that conservatives are a pack of racists for disagreeing with our president's policies. Now, I expect this sort of nonsense from ignoramus Janeanne Garafolo, but it is downright embarrassing coming from a news anchor. Hard to believe that an idea like that doesn't garner them huge ratings. Chris Matthews is an Obama lapdog much like that of the main networks, NBC, CBS and ABC.

Ratings like these show that not all Americans have drank the Kool-Aid and that a growing number are starting to sober up.

As someone who has to read news all day, it's heartening to see folks waking up. When the Soviet Union's Pravda newspaper starts covering stories (see Climategate) that our mainstream media ignores, I find that to be incredibly embarrassing.

I spent the New Year's three day weekend immersed in the underwater city of Rapture after picking up BioShock for the Xbox360. All I can say is...Wow! What a great game.

Set in an Ayn Rand dystopian Atlantis-like city underwater, this game comes complete with a wonderful back story, an incredible soundtrack of old songs that paint a ghost of the past and an eerie world where you can just roam the city looking at the poster boards, graffiti and other adornments.

Released in 2007, I finally got around to playing this single player title and it did not disappoint. After three sleepless days, I actually lamented finishing this game. Lots of thrills and an odd assortment of characters and a story that just pulls you in. The weapons were really cool and the genetic mutations (plasmids) were a lot of fun to experiment with for different effects.

BioShock gets an A from me and joins Crackdown and Dead Rising as the gems of the past few years. The feel of the game though is unmatched by any other. It really pulls you into its' world and let you live there if for only a brief period of time.

Yet Another Obama Incompetent

Where does the Obama administration come up with its' merry band of incompetents.

In the first place, a person on the terror watch list gets placed on the no-fly list based on information given by his OWN father. Somehow, he is still able to board the plane because the Dept. of Homeland Security and the State Dept. can't get their heads out of their own asses for two minutes to do their jobs updating new information.

Secondly, these retards then have the gall to tell us afterwards that the system worked. Which I guess means that flyers are responsible for defusing terror incidents on board for themselves.

Then, we are told that it's Bush's fault since his systems are still in place. It's funny how as bad as Bush is portrayed to be, we were safe for eight years. If the Dems thought Bush's systems were so bad, is there any particular reason that a year wasn't enough time to replace them? Or is it that the folks in place haven't a clue as to what they are doing?

I choose the latter.

Honestly, if you are a Democrat who voted for Obama, and you are still riding this train wreck of an administration, you get what you deserve.

We now have a terrorist who knows of others trained with him that has been given Miranda rights instead of being interrogated for possible knowledge of other plots thanks to Eric Holder and another band of retards giving out American rights' like M&Ms from a candy jar.

Now we have no idea if anything is coming next because our terrorist has "the right to remain silent". How convenient. That's an excellent call by the injustice department.

Admittedly, it seemed that Bush made some egregious errors in returning Gitmo Yemenis back home. And what is this administration still saying? It's Bush's fault (which is true), but we HAVE to close Gitmo and are sending the rest of the Yemenis home anyway.

Update:

Today, we find out that a post 9/11 system was in place to warn other planes pilots at the time while they were in the air. It wasn't followed either. So, theoretically, if we had another muliple plane plot, no other pilots were even warned.

These folks haven't a clue as to what they are doing. No fucking clue...

Christmas +1 Peeps!

Churkey hatched two eggs the day after Christmas in single digit weather. The peeps are doing fine and dandy with Mom keeping them warm in the garage.

I don't normally allow Churkey to sit on eggs in the winter time, but she was pretty adamant and we lost two hens (Salt, a Barred Rock and Barbie, an Easter Egger) this fall. I figured we could use a couple of replacements.

Kitty's Trip to the Mellon Arena

My youngest daughter, Kitty, loves going to see the Penguins play. She loves it when the Pens win, but her favorite thing seems to be the fights.

I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

We watched the Pens demolish the Senators 8-2 on the strength of a Evgeny Malkin hat trick and 2 goal performance by Billy Guerin.

The Pens gave out black Christmas stockings as a giveaway, but most of them found the ice after the hat trick.

We got plenty of practice singing the "WooHoo" song as the Pens scored 5 goals in the 2nd period right below us, to break a 1-1 tie.

So, I've been paying attention now when I go to the store and the practice is widespread on almost all items.

The thing that kills me isn't the bump up in prices. It's how the industry has chosen to raise prices. I guess they really think that we are all THAT stupid. At least they should be honest and post the changes on the label.

The FACCC at the Christmas Parade

We've all been to our local Christmas parades. You know, the ones where local businesses, area high school bands, dancing schools, emergency departments (fire, police, ambulance) and town locals take their vehicles, floats and shoes to the streets to celebrate the holiday season.

Children gather on both sides of the streets as the parade participants throw candy for them to enjoy. My kids have enjoyed these types of parades since they were toddlers and I've always thought that they were a nice way to kick off the Christmas season.

Two weeks ago, my daughter, Loni, took to the streets as part of the parade in her high school's marching band's procession. We got there and took a place near the beginning of the parade route. The night was cold and crisp but it only added to the ambiance.

Then, enter the FACCC...

Four chubby sub 5 foot tall middle aged women (see picture above for size approximation) with 2 children between them were standing on the curb in front of us. I didn't think anything of it initially. They seemed to be typical middle class Americans and dressed modestly. Nothing about them would have suggested anything out of the norm.

Until the candy started flying, that is...

Usually when the candy gets thrown, the adults will remain on the curb and the children in the audience will move a few feet into the street to grab candy as it is thrown their way. Certainly, not a replacement for Halloween, but enough for the kids to enjoy for the night and maybe a day or two. The candy is usually low quality such as simple lollipops, jolly ranchers, tootsie rolls...you get the picture! Just pocket candy.

The four short rotund women burst into the street with plastic bags. They gather all the candy in sight as they more than meet their quota of bending over for the year. They take every piece of candy that hits the ground in a 12 foot space, even in front of their own children. I stand there shocked and amazed as my children can't even squeeze in to get more than one piece each. I don't think my youngest daughter, Kitty, even got a piece at all! Bebis got a piece because one of their husband's lightning hand picked up a piece right ahead of her. Bebis muttered under her breath and I think he felt embarrassed and offered it to her.

I stood by in awe and was shocked at what I was seeing. I was speechless. Usually, I'd say something but I actually became embarrassed for them as they piled the penny candy into plastic Walmart bags. My kids are twelve to sixteen years of age, so they really were only interested in a piece or two to enjoy during the parade. Given the festive setting, I decided against making a scene and looked on in horror and amusement as they performed their human vaccuum cleaner impression producing burgeoning bags of treats.

Then, when I didn't think it could get any worse, they started a conversation in which they were complaining about the people across the street getting more candy thrown their way. As they protested to the parade participants, my mind was yelling out...

"THE PEOPLE ACROSS THE STREET ARE KIDS!!!! THATS WHY THEY ARE GETTING MORE CANDY, YOU INSUFFERABLE FAT ASSES!!!"

Thankfully, the parade didn't last more than a half hour as I couldn't tear my eyes away from the disgusting scene. I don't think I've ever seen such an embarrassing display in my life.

As we drove home, I muttered under my breath...

"The Fat Assed Candy Collector's Club"

Tay knew exactly what I was talking about and chuckled. I let the girls in on the secret and they all gave their individual accounts of their impressions.

To this day, I am still embarrassed by what I saw and wonder if these women have any idea as to how they would come across to anyone around them? I would imagine that they do this every year...pathetic...

Sarah Palin had a book signing at the Sam's Club in Washington, PA today.

Tay left the house to get on line early. She was #630. There had to be several thousand people there for the book signing.

She called me later to tell me to join her on line and to bring some stuff she needed.

After I hung up, I look at Aussie at ask:

"Is it possible that your Mom took both sets of keys again today?"

"No, I think she put the keys back in the white Durango".

"Could you check?"

Aussie comes back in the house. They aren't in the vehicle. I give a quick look around. I sigh deeply and dial Tay's cell.

"Hello?"

"Tay?"

"Yeah"

"Do you, by any chance, have both sets of keys again?"

"Oh my God....yes I do"

"Okay...see you in 10 minutes"

Aussie and I take the Big Red to Tay's Dad's to take his car to go to the book signing. Did I really expect today to be any different than yesterday?

We got both of our copies signed by Sarah.

Tay, The Keys and My Blood Pressure

If anyone doubts that living with "Peteys" can be trying, boy do I have a story for you. These are actual events from this weekend. No names were changed to protect the innocent because there weren't any innocent parties.

After a busy work week, I was looking forward to getting home and relaxing. I only had two Peteys this weekend (Tay and Aussie) and they were planning a trip to the mall to get Aussie a new cell phone. When I got home, Tay had a new haircut that looked really nice and she whipped me up a very tasty stir fry. I sat in front of the TV to watch three episodes of "My Name is Earl". I contemplated taking the blood pressure meds I forgot to take this morning, but I was feeling pretty serene, so I sat back and enjoyed the show and kissed Aussie and Tay goodbye before they left for the mall. Tay took my black Durango as she customarily does instead of driving the white Maidpro Durango after business hours.

About a half hour later, in the middle of watching a rare episode that I haven't seen before, Tay calls.

"Ummm...I can't get the key to unlock the car door. I even tried it manually and it won't turn", Tay informs me.

"That's weird", I thought to myself. The only other time I had this problem was when Tay washed my other set of keys in the washer, but that's a whole 'nother story.

"Before I come get you gals, can you try one thing?" I say.

"Sure", Tay replies.

"Go into the Sears and replace the small battery for the keys. Maybe the battery died. Sears has an automotive section and they should have no problem swapping it out quickly. Call me back if it doesn't work."

"Sure". And I go back to watching the show.

5 minutes later the phone rings again. I get up to answer it. It's Tay again.

"It didn't work".

Being that we have three vehicles, this really isn't a big problem, so I offer to come get them and tell them I'll be there in about 10 minutes.

I get dressed and go outside to Tay's white Durango. I get inside and reach for the keys in the ignition. They are not there.

That's odd, since rural life dictates that all keys must remain in the ignition of vehicles as a matter of principal. I still have issues with that one, having grown up in NYC, but usually my black Durango is the only vehicle on the property in which I bring the keys in the house.

So, I go back in the house to look for the keys. They are nowhere to be found. I'm getting supremely annoyed since the keys are NEVER anyplace else. I call Tay.

"Tay...any idea where the keys are for the white Durango?"

"In the ignition."

"No, they aren't in the car."

"That's odd. Maybe they are in my black coat"

I check it. "Nope"

"The bedroom"

"Nope"

"The Pie safe"

"Nope"

"The kitchen table"

"Nope. Listen, Tay...I already checked all over the house including all your clothes folded on the bed."

"That's odd. I have no idea where they can be. Why don't you take the Trailblazer down to get us."

"Okay"

I hang up and look outside and remember that Tay's Trailblazer, our third vehicle is getting new brakes and we were waiting for Tay to get her registration in the mail so it can be inspected. Tay forgot to send in the registration for a month or two or three and it couldn't get inspected until the registration came back.

"God damned it. Are you kidding me?"

I call Tay back.

"Tay, the Trailblazer isn't here. Isn't it at the shop for brakes?"

"Oh yeah...no...it got the new brakes. It's down the road at Dad's place. It's not inspected but you can still drive it down to get us. Take the Big Red down to Dad's and get it."

I'm starting to get furious but do my best to hide it.

"Okay...see you in 10 minutes."

So, I go into the garage, get in the Big Red and drive through the pitch black woods to Tay's Dad's place. The Trailblazer is sitting behind his garage. I park the Big Red out of the way and get into the Trailblazer.

By now, you can probably guess...No keys in the ignition.

Let me just start by saying, it's a good thing the door and windows were closed in the Trailblazer and that no neighbor lived nearby. The tapestry of obscenies I wove in that vehicle lasted for about 3 whole minutes.

"God damn it!"

...every fucking vehicle on both properties except my truck usually has keys in the ignition. Quads, tractors, backhoe, cars...you name it, there is a key in the ignition. At this point, I am livid. The keys don't seem to be anywhere in the car either.

I call Tay back again.

"There are no keys in the trailblazer either"

"That's odd. I wonder what Dad did with them. Did you check under the mat?"

"Nope...not there"

"Visor"

"Nope, not there"

"Console"

"Tay, these fucking keys are nowhere in the vehicle"

"Ummmm, okay. Lemme think. Dad is out with his wife seeing the Rockettes. Why don't you take his car?"

I look over at her Dad's car.

"What are the chances that the keys are actually inside it at this point?"

"They'll be in there"

I hang up and walk to the vehicle. At this point my blood pressure is probably clocking in at 300 over 180 and my nice peaceful night is ruined.

I get into the car and BINGO, the keys are there!

I call Tay. "Okay, I'm on my way".

Normally (when my blood pressure isn't skyrocketing), my powers of deductive reasoning are fairly acute. Hell, they have to be with all the shit the Peteys pull on a daily basis. Tonight, they were a little off.

But for some reason, driving my Father-in-laws's car was very relaxing. By the time I pulled out of Dad's driveway, my mind was starting to clear. By the time I passed our driveway, I had an epiphany. I solved the riddle, but now I was trying to figure out a tactful way to break it to Tay.

I pick up the blackberry.

"Hello?"

"It's me, Tay. I'm on my way, but I wanted to ask a quick question."

"Okay" Tay replied.

"Is there any chance that you have both sets of Durango keys?"

I bite my lip.

"Lemme check..................uh, yeah, I do"

Then I ask the next obvious question with as much tact as humanly possible given the circumstances. In retrospect, I think I should be up for a 2009 Noble Peace prize for showing remarkable restraint.

"Is there any chance that you tried the white Durango's keys to open the black Durango?"

Not to be mean but I can hear the light going on in Tay's head over the phone line.

"I don't know. Let me go to the car and check"

"Okay, I'm on my way anyway, but call me back", I said.

Two minutes later, the phone rings and I am greeted by Tay's sheepish voice.

"Yeah, that's what I did. We're in the car."

"Okay, good, I'll see you at home."

I take Dad's car back to his house and get in Big Red and take another quick drive through the woods back to our house. I've missed all three episodes of "Earl" and my remaining food is cold. I throw it in the garbage and reach for my BP medication. I pop a double dose.

Ten minutes later, Tay and Aussie walk in the house.

Tay is avoiding eye contact at first but then starts to apologize profusely. I ask her if she was sure that the hairdresser didn't dye her hair blond on the inside earlier in the day.

I tell her that she's gonna have a hell of a weekend of massages to get my blood pressure down.

A Glimpse At The Boobs In Government

Government sponsored "research" suggests that breast exam and self exam guidelines should be changed because it costs more than the benefit.

A recent WSJ article reveals that a government entity, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, is now suggesting that the age for mammogram screening be pushed back to 50 and also suggests teaching self exams be discontinued because of too many "false positives".

Excuse me? Shouldn't false negatives be the main priority? If anything, mammography techniques should be improved.

I guess according to the government, less cases equals less incidence equals "statistically better" healthcare. Of course, those finally diagnosed won't probably live too long, but isn't that the desired outcome here? Cancer doesn't exist in the stats if we don't know about it. This reeks of pre-emptive rationing of one of women's most crucial healthcare issues. Why save a few women when you can save costs on a thousand women.

This is a perfect example of the type of stealth rationing that we'll get under public option government healthcare. Not many discount the effectiveness of mammography screening, but the decisions on age of screening will come down to cost outlay, not lives saved.

That is criminal.

Aussie Cheers Pens On To Victory!

Aussie and I went to see the Pens-Ducks game tonight.

The Pens won 5-2.

Annoying Guy behind us was actually tolerable believe it or not.

The most heinous example is that of Charlie Rangel as he still sits atop the House's Way and Means committee regardless of his tax cheating, hidden income and misuse of government funding. That's the guy I want in charge of writing and approving the tax codes.

She promised change too and offers nothing but more extreme cronyism... Hell, she sponsored one of the largest bills the House has ever seen and locked the doors preventing access to Republicans. She even had time to call the CIA a bunch of liars and chastized another member for calling Obama a liar when, according to the House healthcare bill, he clearly did lie. Like we are to believe that Obama had no hand in the construction of this bill? Please...

Are Election Results Indicative Of America's Mood?

If you listened to Fox News last night, the answer was a resounding YES. If you listened to CNN, and the big three, the answer was a big NO.

I think the important thing though is not what the networks think but what our politicians who are supposed to represent us think. Are they willing to ignore the clear majority of us who oppose anymore spending bills or will they continue to try to ram them down our throats, expending any last bit of fictional political capital that they believe they have.

I say that we are not out of the woods and that this administration is prepared to throw a whole lot of moderate to conservative democrats under the bus to get socialized healthcare done. That is unfortunate but we must continue to fight the good fight here and not rely on two governor's races to give us any false sense of security.

The loons are in complete control of the democratic party. That is unfortunate for some good people in that party, namely the blue dogs.

My Endoscopy and Colonoscopy

About ten years ago, I was suffering from pretty consistent heartburn and digestive issues. My doctor ordered an endoscopy (stomach) and colonoscopy (colon) in order to see if I had damage or anything out of the ordinary going on. This is the procedure where they feed a flexible tube with a camera at the tip into the respective areas. They suspected at the very least, that I had a stomach ulcer.

If drinking a gallon of gag inducing liquid fiberglass the night before to clean my intestines out wasn't bad enough, the peppermint numbing agent they lined my throat with still has me avoiding anything with that flavor like the plague. Try coming hard at me with a candy cane and there's a pretty good chance you'll be doing is pulling the thing out of your rectum.

Anyway, I'm laying on the table, drifting off to sleep in a Valium induced haze and the last thing I feel is the nice ultra warm blanket they drape over me. As my vision is getting hazy, the last thing I see is my doctor pulling the camera scope from its' sterile packaging. I mumble something and drift off ...

A few hours later I wake up in a recovery room and the nurse gets my doctor. I ask him how everything went and he says okay and gives me a clean bill of health. They find nothing out of the ordinary. Then, my doctor starts to chuckle.

"What?", I said.

"Do you remember what you told me right before you drifted off to sleep?"

"No, Doc...I don't"

"You told me to do your stomach first. Like we were really going to use the same scope to do both procedures.", he continues laughing.

"I don't remember that at all"

"Well, it definitely made our day. We laughed through the whole procedure"

"And did you do the stomach first?"

"What do you think?"

"I don't know. All I can taste is this goddamn peppermint!"

He walks away laughing. He never did answer my question.

Our family couldn't be happier for the early arrival of Alexandra yesterday!

Cali and LiLi were expecting a Halloween delivery but were most pleasantly surprised by getting their "sweets" early!

We usually have two young twin "spike" bucks that frolic around our property as if they own it. We see them almost every single day.

Our game cam, which monitors basically chicken predators in the coop area, caught this image earlier this morning.

This is the first bigger buck that I've seen so close to the house.

At this rate I might be doing my deer hunting out of my bedroom window!

Then, maybe it won't take me 14 shots like last year!

Our First Homegrown Chicken Dinner!

The Peteys and I enjoyed our first free ranged chicken meal. The chicken was tender and tasty. We all agree that the chicken tasted as good or better than any chicken we've ever had. I was very pleasantly surprised after hearing many stories about tough and less than tasty home butchered birds.

Our bird, a 25 week old Buff Orpington rooster tasted absolutely wonderful. I can't say enough also about our family making another small step towards our ability to live self sufficiently.

The girls raved about the flavor. Even Kitty, our youngest daughter, who had initial reservations about eating a bird we raised, helped pick the bird clean. I think she liked it the best.

Special thanks to Tay and Aussie, who helped prepare such a wonderful meal and thanks to Buffy, the rooster, who lived 25 weeks as a "cage free" free range bird for providing the tasty entree. Even though butchering your own food sounds unpleasant, it's nice to know that one less bird in the world had to be caged to provide our family of six with a meal.

We plan on continuing to raise a few birds next year as well, hens for eggs and roos for meat.

Our First Processed Chicken

Tay and I processed our first chicken today. We have 2 extra young roosters, so we thought we'd try our hand at producing our own roaster. Our largest Buff Orpington rooster will provide Tuesday's dinner with our girls!

I spared you guys any real graphic photos. Overall, It went very well and we are excited to taste the fruits of our labors. Plucking turned out to be extremely simple after dipping the chicken in 150 degree water a few quick dunks. Eviscerating it turned out to be rather simple as well. If the bird ends up tasting good, I can see us processing more birds in the future.

Since our birds truly free range, there's a chance the meat won't be as tender as caged birds, but worse comes to worse, we just make soup in the future. I'm just glad to have the chickens and enjoy them having free reign on the property. They are very relaxing to watch and the eggs the hens provide are the best! Now, if the rooster roast turns out to be a winner, I think we'll have full utilization of a chicken flock and teach our children a good lesson in providing the simpler basics of life for ourselves.

Zombieland: "Nut Up Or Shut UP"

Tay and I went to see Zombieland tonight. I give it two enthusiastic thumbs up. It is exactly what it promises, one night of good time zombie slaying fun.

This movie was either going to be real funny or it was going to be atrocious. Woody Harrelson and cast does not disappoint.

I encourage you to see it and remember the mantra you little spitfuck, "either nut up or shut up!". Well worth the price of admission.

The reason they continue to ignore the story is that it goes against their policy of supporting President Obama at all costs.

The videos which can be found on YouTube are absolutely damning. The organization is obviously a festering bed of corruption. These are the people that were getting a seat at Obama's table during his presidency. These are the folks that the administration wanted to send into our houses to collect sensitive information for the census.

They have received almost 50M in federal money (some from President Bush) to date and were slated to get over 8B in stimulus money.

If Attorney General Eric Holder fails to investigate this organization, he should be replaced with someone who will. The FBI should get involved, close their doors and review their documents to see just how far the corruption goes.

If the rank and file workers for ACORN were so quick to give advice on how to become tax cheats, lie on loan applications, smuggle 13-15 year old girls from foreign countries to be part of prostitution rings, etc...etc... with strangers walking in off the street that they don't even know, what kind of advice do they give for the folks in their own communities?

This isn't a case of a few bad apples. This is a poisoned tree. One that Obama has intimate connections to as one of their former lawyers.

Tay and I canned 15+ quarts of tomatoes at her Dad's farm today. Despite the late season tomato blight, the plants have surprisingly yielded enough tomatoes to get 100+ quarts canned again this season (most done by her Dad and stepmum). I got the job as "mater squisher" as Daddy got the day off...well, is it really a day off when you're cutting hay instead of canning?

Just past midnight on Saturday, July 19, 1969, Senator Ted Kennedy drove his black Oldsmobile sedan off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island near Martha's Vineyard, just off Cape Cod. The "married" Senator escaped a watery death, but a passenger in his car, twenty-eight-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne, did not. The senator did not immediately call rescue services but wandered away from the scene, checked back into his hotel, called the front desk in the middle of the night to complain about a noise problem and then finally reported the accident 10 hours later!

Today, Ms. Kopechne's ghost can finally rest. It took 40 years, but justice has finally been served. Good riddance to Senator Ted Kennedy as well. He was a trainwreck of a man, a drunken, womanizing joke and lived too long of a life on his brothers' coattails.

The Scenario

Our six heroes show up outside of town on a pickup truck. They are charged with the task of searching the town for two biocannisters of virus cure and returning them to the truck with at least one hero. They have 17 hours (turns) to complete the mission.

The Game

The game began very ominously in a heavy rain storm (courtesy of the zombies) which initially slowed down the heroes' movements for several turns. All three zombie hordes spawned near the maximum amount of undead (6 red, 5 green, 6 brown), putting 17 undead on the board right from the start. It looked rather grim. As the zombies started their slow convergence on the heroes, Billy, Father Joe and Amanda shot out of the gate quickly and approached the center of town first.

As Father Joe searched for items a few yards away, Billy and Amanda dropped to the soaked muddy thoroughfare and went at it like wild feral cats (courtesy of the zombies playing the infamous "last night on earth card"), and forfeited a turn. With the zombies still not in striking distance, the tryst did not cost the heroes much and apparently inspired the normally weak playing Billy to new heights. Amanda, on the other hand, devastated by sleeping with such a "loser", went on a personal rampage with a hangun to the tune of 7 dead zombies on 9 successive turns. It was as if her personal soundtrack should have been "Every zombie run, the prom queen has got a gun!".

Nurse Becky and Detective Rachelle stayed fairly close to the truck and successfully fought off the first wave of zombies while protecting the escape path. Rachelle, a female minority, however, enhanced stereotypical ideas that quota hiring systems are not a good thing by not being able to hit the broad side of a barn with her service pistol and eventually, it ran out of ammo. However, the pair managed to stay alive fighting in the cornfields, partially hidden from the zombie horde. Nurse Becky was able to locate the first cannister quickly and fought off several wounds to return it to the truck. Thankfully, at this point, the heavy rain ceased.

As Amanda went on her killing spree, Billy was thwarted from searching an area by zombies and realized that he had left something (his condoms, according to Irish's narrative) at the high school, and had to make a mad dash to retrieve them.

Sally, the high school sweetheart decided to proceed deep into the town alone to check out the abandoned airport hanger. Upon entering it, she found an empty cannister and immediately the hanger was taken over by 3 spawning zombies with another blocking the only door.

Upon reaching the high school, Billy found the second cannister right beside his condoms. The trip to the school actually was a stroke of dumb luck. Immediately 4 zombies decended upon Billy inside the school.

Then the tide started turning the zombies' way. Nurse Becky finally succumbed to the brown zombie horde. Father Joe tried to clear a path for Billy outside the high school with a flare gun but took a wound from a red infected zombie. In an effort to cure his own wound, Fr. Joe took another wound which immediately transformed him into a Zombie Hero, controlled by the red zombie hoard. Nurse Becky, then fell to the zombie hoard. Lastly, the gun crazed and possibly pregnant prom queen, Amanda, finally fired an errant shot and was also swallowed in the wave of zombies creating Zombie Heroes, Becky and Amanda, carrying possibly a zombie child.

The Heroes were one lost hero away from losing. Billy was surrounded in the school by four zombies, Sally was surrounded in the hangar by her own four zombies and new heros Jenny, Johnny and Sheriff Anderson were just spawning and were no where near to help. Johnny had a 5 in 6 chance to kill Zombie Hero Father Joe with a flare gun and it clicked empty in his hand (with a roll of a 1).

Sally and Billy miraculously fought their zombies off and started their mad dash through town back to the truck. Billy met up with Johnny in the bank and formulated a plan to run an end around past the zombies. Jenny joined Detective Rachelle in her home turf, the cornfield, and helped clear a path for Johnny and Billy. Sally got stuck fighting Zombie Hero Becky.

As Billy tried to dash out the front door of the bank, the zombies locked the door, but Johnny pulled found keys out of his ass which allowed the pair to escape the building. The heroes were running for the truck as the zombie horde chased them through town. But, a bottleneck at the junkyard entrance finally deterred the heroes from making a clean escape. Billy took multiple wounds that he was able to heal twice before dying. Sally was able to continue to fight off Zombie Becky. Jenny was an absolute force in the cornfield fighting alongside Rachelle and was able to heal Billy a moment before he was about to take a deadly wound. Zombie Amanda had an impossible time finding them in the cornfields.

With 5 hours left in the game and many of the heroes one wound away from death, Billy made a very courageous decision. Sensing an imminent hero death, he raced into the cornfield into the zombies and Hero Zombie Amanda and handed off the cannister to Rachelle. Rachelle, then, made a mad dash to the truck and left with the two cannisters, leaving the surviving heroes, to die in the town of Woodinvale...

No zombies were harmed in the making of this film.

All in all, a very enjoyable night! The game took four hours to play with 9 people and was absolutely riveting. This game did not disappoint. The game momentum kept going back and forth all game and a handful of individual decisions absolutely made the difference in the outcome of this game. Thank you to all that attended and made the evening an absolute blast!

Anybody who believes a public government run healthcare option is a win for all Americans is either horribly misinformed, retarded, too busy gulping the Obama kool-aid or some combination of the three.

The government public option would eventually become THE only option once the government used it's massive power to achieve price control. Once that happened, the private option would become relegated to a pay for service, black market healthcare, where only the very rich would get the best doctors and procedures. This doesn't take a genius to figure out.

This government healthcare scare has already chased some doctors into offering separate fee for service plans and out of mainstream healthcare for good.

The government run option didn't even cover tort reform. If you are wondering why this is, it's because you can continue to sue private healthcare while you can't sue the government. This becomes even more of an arm twist to get everyone in the public fold.

All I have to say is thank God that enough Americans woke up to realize that we were on the precipice of throwing away the BEST healthcare system in the world. We work our whole lives to make sure of our financial security (where paying into government social security is about to yield us nothing as it fails), why would we also place our health security in that same basket? Haven't we watched government run every social and public program into the ground or into bankruptcy? Our public healthcare would have become the VA.

Isn't it much better to be a customer with choices of healthcare options with insurance companies vying hard for your business? Competition breeds performance. The government would have turned healthcare into every other institution it runs. A huge bureaucracy with out of control costs, where one has limited choices and no recourse in navigating through the system. I would offer that the uninsured get better treatment now, showing up at an ER than they would with the government run public system.

Do we work our whole lives to be lumped in with folks unwilling to provide for themselves?

Maybe it's time to take the "Death Panel" and turn it into a "Welfare Panel". Once you are collecting government welfare for 10 years (the time period is negotiable), then "end of life" discussions can begin. It's about time we "culled" the deadbeats in our society who are costing us a fortune.

Socialized healthcare is one of the greatest trades of liberty for security that I can imagine. Very, very short-sighted and very, very stupid indeed.

But, be careful. In this era of government takeover of banks, auto and insurance companies, who's to say that they won't takeover the first failing health insurer and then convert it into the public sector healthcare option. This government is smart, crafty and has patent disregard for what the majority wants in this country. In other words, keep very careful watch over what they do, and ignore what they say!

Beukey and I at the Giles Open this past weekend!

The Giles Open began when I was a freshman at Saint Francis University in 1985. After all these years, I was contacted and told that this tournament had continued for the past 24 years! Of course, when we heard that, Beukey and I said "road trip"! The weekend did not disappoint as it was great to reconnect with old friends.

I shot a practice round 98 on the Founders course at Penn National on Friday, and a 94 on the Iron Forge course for the Giles Open for a middle of the pack finish on Saturday.

Our team tied for Saturday's scramble championship with a -5.

Finished Sunday with a 95 Stableford scramble for another middle of the pack finish.

Landscaping 2009: Day 2

Day 2 of clearing brought more excitement over the possibilities of our new "found" space! The clearing is just about done and now comes the hard part. Clearing the roots, debris, trunks and all of the wood cutting. After most of the debris is gone, Tay's Dad will till the soil and then we will stake out a plot for our future garden and seed the rest with grass. I'll update again when significant changes are made.

Tay's uncle provided the bulldozer and his personal services to help open up about half an acre or so of underbrush and sickly trees. Tay and I want to create a garden, a small fruit orchard and a patio area that now faces a new western facing open area that will allow for some stunning sunsets.

The WSJ wrote a scathing opinion piece that pretty much sums up the abuse that they are wreaking on their own party. They barred Republicans from helping to write these bills months and months ago. Now they have closed the doors to moderate Democrats as well.

Neither gives a shit about anything but doing whatever they have to, to pass this costly debt exploding shit sandwich legislation of the far left. Both are insufferable assholes. They will probably sink Obama's policies all on their own. Which is great.

But who else would push such nonsense except these two clowns? Obama reached to the lunatic fringe of his party, hoping that his super majority was enough to push through any bill he wished to pass. He dismissed the best minds in the party for the most fervent, mindless fools. What Obama is finding out now, as people get wise is that you reap what you sow.

Last Night On Earth

Played an awesome zombie boardgame a few times over the past few weeks. The game pits 4 survivors against a zombie hoard. In the simple scenario, 2 players play 2 heros each and 1 player plays the zombie hoard and the heros must kill 15 zombies before sun up. Sun up occurs after each side gets 15 turns, so each game only lasts about an hour or so. The standard game can be played by up to 6 players with multiple players playing heros and multiple players controlling different colors of zombies (green, brown and red).

The basic gist of the game is as follows:

When night begins to fall on the sleepy town of Woodinvale, the shadows and fog rolling in bring with them more than just a chill shiver. A living nightmare erupts as the once peaceful community is overrun with the restless dead…scratching and clawing their way to the surface with an insatiable hunger for human flesh. Now only a handful of unlikely Heroes are left, banding together to fight for their very lives. On a night that never ends, the only thing worse than death… is becoming infected.

Last Night on Earth, The Zombie Game is a fast-paced game of brain-eating Zombies, small town Heroes, and horror movie action. Players take on the role of either the Heroes, working together to make it through the night; or the Zombies, unending waves of undead spreading over the town like a plague. Featuring a modular board, eight Heroes to choose from, and several different Scenarios to play that drastically change the game, Last Night on Earth is designed to create a cinematic feel as the story and game unfolds.

So put down that popcorn, grab your shotgun, and hide your brain; the Zombies are coming and this could be your Last Night on Earth!

This past weekend, Poppinfresh, Irish and me played some of the more advanced scenarios of the game including "Save the Townsfolk" and "Get Out Of Dodge". There are several different scenarios included in the game and the expansion pack and an unlimited number of additional scenarios created by gamers and available of the game's fan site in the Variants section.

Now, I'm a zombie nut, so I am very biased, but I think that this is the best boardgame that I've ever played. It just has unlimited ways to enjoy the game. I just ordered a copy for myself with the expansion pack. When the game comes in, I would love to host a LNOE party and let those interested form their own opinion. Hell, I'd love to get a huge game going using most of the heros and 6 zombie players (2 for each color -I ordered extra zombie pieces!).

Old Trails swept Roland's Trucking on Sunday afternoon, eeking out a 7-6 win in the opener and taking the nightcap 15-5 in five innings.

I managed my second triple in two weeks and the offense finally came on with a 10 run inning in the third. After advancing to third on a sac fly in the fifth inning, I scored the winning run on a single. (5/6)

Softball/BBQ/Bonfire: July 18, 2009

We got a nice turnout of 15 players for softball and played a 7 on 7 doubleheader (six innings each), while I pitched for both squads.

The two teams:

A: Saraloni, Bebis, Meersky, Shep Jr., Papa Shep, Tay, Hamdog.

B: Nate, Rhino, Mama Shep, The Don, Francois, Kimber, Jackson.

The weather held out and we only had to suffer through some rain in the first inning of Game 2 until it cleared again.

Team B managed to squeak out a 10-9 victory in the opener after taking a big 9-1 lead after three innings and also won the nightcap 14-12 in an offensive explosion for both teams in a back and forth contest. The Don used his family jewels to knock down a game ending groundout to seal the game 2 victory. There were lots of longballs in game 2 as a fatigued Bluey got a sore neck watching the balls fly overhead.

And speaking about flying overhead...It is rumored that ESPN "The Ocho" sent a DirecTV blimp over the field to capture the aerial footage. The blimp soared right over the field.

After the games, we retired back to our home for a BBQ and bonfire.

Everyone got to ride the Honda Big Red and were given tours of our and Tay's Dad's property.

Bluey and Tay made BBQ chicken, burgers, dogs, brauts, baked ziti, baked beans and pasta salad. Our guests also brought some nice tasty sides and desserts. Thank you for that! Mama Shep's homemade cookies were unbelievable!

Choder and AmE came for the BBQ later on and brought their kids, who got a real kick out of our kittens, feeding the chickens grapes and riding in Big Red. Choder's young son somehow always seemed to gravitate to the cooler for a beer, Odd, almost like he was trained to do so.

Our teens disappeared for about an hour to jump on large round hay bales at the top of the property, while the rest of us chilled, told stories and enjoyed the bottled brews (Newcastle, Yuengling and Sam Adams) around the fire.

All in all, one heck of a nice day with great friends, food and wandering fowl.

Thanks to all for making the day an absolute success and so much fun!

This was our first opportunity to have friends at our place and Tay, I and my girls had such a good time.

We'll try to schedule one more softball/BBQ/bonfire event in late August.

Another Softball Split and A Relocation

Luna, our psycho-Momcat, decided that the bedroom closet wasn't good enough today and decides to move them into Tay's dresser drawer while I'm out playing softball.

Talk about cuteness!!!

Softball was another split with TNT. We lost the opener 17-4 and won the nightcap 24-14.

I hit a rare triple in the late innings of the second game that cleared loaded bases. I finished 4 for 6 for the day.

The administration's new "Get Tough On Giant Squirrels Initiative" will "save countless military jobs" as GIs leaving Iraq face a burgeoning 9.5% unemployment rate as prospects for their rehire back in the private sector dwindle.

Nancy Pelosi claims that the new initiative will save 300 million U.S. armed forces jobs.

Joe Biden says that the administration "misread" the giant squirel problem and is using it as a way to stimulate the economy.

The administration had no comment as to whether AIG was paying Giant Squirrel czar Christopher Dodd 5k for each pelt to be used in lieu of corporate bonuses to executives.

GM is also denying that 2010 model vehicles will come standard with fur covered seating.

As the dollar has taken a pounding internationally, the Chinese and Russians have scaled back buying government bonds, opting for pelts instead. The squirrel pelt is slowly replacing the greenback's role in world currency.

To combat huge rises in electricity rates as a result of the cap and trade legislation, each U.S. taxpayer will receive a tax credit to receive a Chinese made squirrel coat to keep warm in the winter.

NYC Trip: First in 17 Months!

Sorry, I've been away for the past week. I finally got around to visiting my family in NYC after an extended absence. The Peteys invaded NYC and we had a nice time over at my sister, Vicki and her husband, Fuzz's place on Long Island.

I got to spend some quality time playing "Shark" in the pool with my niece and nephews and we had our traditional yearly wiffleball game in which the Jr. Fuzz outscored Los Angelos 18-17 in a five inning game.

The quote of the weekend came from my sister, Siouxsie's son, pictured on the left when he asked about Vicki and Fuzz's wedding picture.

"Who is that guy that Aunt Debbie married?", he inquired.

Fuzz replies, "That's me!"

To which my nephew replies, "What happened to you?"

Everybody pisses themselves over that comment.

Fuzz, then asks, "How does Vicki look?".

To which my nephew replies, "The same."

Vicki beams and Fuzz endures a multitude of "what happened to yous?" the rest of the day...

All in all, a very enjoyable weekend and we got to see one hell of a fireworks display by one of Vicki's neighbors , who is a fireman. He had a stunning fireworks show right in the street in front of his house. Until, 4 police cars showed up, that is. They were able to finish the show after a few delays.

We got to see most of the whole immediate family and all the cousins. We scarfed NY pizza, bagels and canoli, saw My Sister's Keeper and finally packed for home and listened to the Harry Potter Half-Blood Prince audio book for the drive home, which made the time fly.

Upon getting home I secured our midnight passes for the Harry Potter premiere. We can't wait!

Now that we have some very preliminary data out on the dangers of texting while driving, the question in my mind is, will Mother's Against Drunk Drivers come down as hard on their own sons and daughters texting while driving as they have on drunk drivers?

Seemingly, with a reaction time that can be up to four times slower than an individual at .008 BAC, it certainly seems that it should be a no-brainer that this action should be illegal and that criminal penalty and fines should be at least comparable to drunk driving if further research establishes this data to be accurate.

Believe me, I have no love for drunk drivers. But this data does not surprise me. I just hope that my family and I don't wind up dead at the hands of one of these morons before it is deemed illegal and the penalties are comparable to drunk driving.

2nd Place Softball Tournament Finish

Old Trails, after dropping it's first game in a double elimination tournament to TNT on Saturday morning, managed to win four straight versus CBP on Saturday afternoon, TNT, Kopper Kettle and Shop-n-Save in eight innings on Sunday before dropping the championship game to Bellefiore Music 7-2.

We walked home with the second place trophy but not a soul was satisfied with that. We just ran out of gas in the fourth game of the day.

I finished the weekend 10 for 16 and finally broke out of my slump by going back to my old batting gloves. They either have a better grip or possess some magical qualities.

It's the first time we placed 2nd in a softball tournament in the last three years.

The NEA Is A Racist Organization!

The National Education Association (NEA), the nation's largest professional employee organization, is committed to the advancement of public education.

The NEA basically ties together teachers' unions across the US. Their opening line in their mission statement says pretty much all you need to know about what they stand for. I highlighted in bold, the key word in their mission.

Childrens education. Nope.

The advancement of teachers unions, its' members and the public education system. That's it!

The NEA doesn't even try to hide what it is all about. Recently, the NEA sent a letter to the Senate that stated that Washington D.C.'s Opportunity Scholarship Program isn't working. This is the program that rewards inner city children who show promise a chance to escape failed inner city public schools and allots them $7500 vouchers to apply to private schools. 1700 children living below the poverty line take advantage of the program to grant them access to schooling in an environment that would not normally be available to them due to economic factors.

The NEA has the gall to cite, "The DC voucher pilot program, which is set to expire this year, has been a failure. Over its' five year span, the pilot program has yielded no evidence of positive impact on student achievement."

Never mind that the Department of Education has already determined these children to be significantly ahead of their peers.

The NEA's real issue is that the $13M that went to these 1700 kids didn't line their own pockets and those of the teachers unions.

Obama has already and come out against extending the program and after the current children are grandfathered through the program, it will be abolished. That is really sad. Especially since 15% of the 860B+ stimulus package already went towards public education (~$130B).

That tells me a few things.

The NEA doesn't give a shit about children unless they are receiving a "public" education provided by the NEA and the level of their caring about the education stops at where the federal and state money is funneled.

The NEA doesn't give a shit about the education of below the poverty line families, which for the most part are minorities.

Since Obama is all about mass amounts of votes, he will support unions (car, teacher...whatever) no matter what they decide, because when it comes down to it, Obama is really only about Obama. Supporting the voucher program should have been a no brainer for Obama. No one in their right mind would have come out against such a noble program.

But, the NEA is the real villain here. They are racists who are doing more to keep minorities below the poverty line because of their own fucking greed. Teachers unions and teachers also have to be held accountable for this for their support of killing the voucher system for inner city minorities. If they truly cared for the children, they'd step up against what is wrong in their own organization and make the right choice, even if it would cost their union some money.

Teachers are a party to this racism even if indirectly.

I get tired of being called a racist every time I disagree with Obama or go to a tax increase protest tea party. At least I know what is worth paying taxes for and what is not.

Get these kids their vouchers back already you racist greedy bastards!

Performance Inhibiting Drugs (PIDs)

I love Major League Baseball's new acronym for steroids as PEDs (performance enhancing drugs). It actually makes sports radio guys sound halfway intelligent.

Well, this past weekend, I had a nerve exposed in a molar and had to go to the ER for painkillers and antibiotics since I couldn't get in for a root canal until Monday.

Well, it made my softball performance interesting to say the least. I perform well enough defensively but when I stepped to the plate it was evident that I was "juiced up" and "far out".

For a large guy, I'm uncharacteristically a contact hitter who hits line drives to all fields for mainly singles and doubles. I rarely attempt to kill the ball or try to hit it over outfielder's heads. I'm more apt to drive one right through the box.

I could probably count on both hands how many times I've swung and missed in slowpitch softball in my entire life.

On Sunday, not only did I swing and miss almost 10 times, I struck out swinging twice while going a modest 2 for 6 while we split a doubleheader versus Shop-N-Save.

Let's just say I provided the entertainment and a cool breeze to the players around me...and leave it at that. And yes, i am aware that PID is already an acronym for pelvic inflammatory disease. But it fits because those balls could have been swollen to twice their size and I still would have probably missed them!

Put Tremadol down as the first documented PID.

Tay's Birthday!

Happy Birthday to Tay!

We won't divulge Tay's age but the Peteys and I took Tay to Angelo's for a nice Italian dinner. I took the day off and Tay and I spent the morning together in nice peace and quiet on another fantastic day weather-wise.

Then Tay, unfortunately had to work a few hours before dinner. A waitress passed out and did a faceplant at the restaurant but an ambulance came to get her and she seemed okay. I guess she just got a little overexcited about Tay's birthday!

Today our Old Trails softball squad hung the first loss on the first place team Dick's 8-7 before falling in the nightcap 16-5.

The first game saw us bounce back from a 2-7 deficit in the third inning to squeak back to a one run victory in seven innings. Stellar defense blanked Dick's for the last 4 innings. (3/5)

My 43rd Birthday

The Peteys and I spent a nice relaxing day celebrating my 43rd birthday. We had lots of quad rides, a BBQ and a bonfire as we kicked back and enjoyed an absolutely gorgeous day!

Unfortunately, the day was a little bittersweet for Tay as her Dad's barn was slated for roof removal today and workers started the process of dismantling the old barn for it's wood. Apparently, using old distressed looking wood for new home construction is all the rage. Tay's Dad wanted to get something for the barn before it fell in. Tay was a little broken up about the prospect of losing the barn she played in as a kid. The barn is pretty picturesque and will be missed!

PNC Park: Pirates 3, NY Mets 1

Well, the Peteys did it again! They willed the Pittsburgh Pirates to another win over my beloved NY Mets. It seems like whenever I bring them, the Pirates win, and when I leave them at home the Mets win. They perform the same jinx on my NY Rangers in the Mellon Arena.

Tay, Jay, Tiff, the Peteys and I enjoyed a gorgeous evening to see a ballgame. I got to see Johan Santana pitch live for the first time but Zach Duke outdueled him on this evening. The Mets were missing Beltran, Reyes, Delgado and a few others, who were injured. The Pirates won on a two-run homerun by some new kid (Camarillo?). The Mets played a less than stellar game defensively.

The game went way too fast. I felt like we were there for about a half hour. Pretty impressive for a baseball game. We're going to have to do it again real soon.

Tay's Homemade Strawberry Jam

Over the past two years, our family is making a real honest effort to be as self sufficient as possible. For Tay's part, she is expanding the canning she does to include much more than tomatoes and pickles. Today, she tried her hand at her first strawberry jam. She ended up with 17 jars. I'm sure she's not 100% happy with it (I think she wanted it to jell a little more), but it sure is tasty! Good job Tay!

Another Federal Bailout?

First the mortgage companies, then the insurers, followed by the banks and the auto companies getting federal bailout money. The federal government, which promises middle and lower class tax cuts, robs from us to pay for these bailouts.

To add insult to injury, many states begin to announce higher taxes on businesses and "the rich" in their states. You get a lot of tough talk from politicians in these states that can't even balance their own books, like California and New York.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that "the rich" will take their businesses to states with lower or non-existent tax rates like Texas or New Hampshire. Why reside in a state that will punitively tax your business just because it is successful? Of course, it won't take long for the jobs to disappear as well.

California is in such dire staits because in addition to chasing business out of the state with record tax rates, it is unwilling to cut any spending programs whatsoever to balance a budget.
The politicians there are on the verge of creating the first state bankruptcy.

Do you think this federal government will allow that? It would probably be best for the state, so that it can renegotiate all of it's current contracts and cut sacred cow social spending programs advocated and protected by the land of fruits and nuts. But, don't be surprised if California receives federal bailout money to keep it going real soon. In other words, the other 49 states' citizens will have to pay for California's unwillingness to stick to a budget. That is patently unfair.

I have an idea for California to raise money. Have it sell chunks of it's land to adjoining states or to the federal government to form a new state, hopefully one that will be more productive with it's resources. Nevada could be squared off and take Los Angeles. Arizona can take lower California and San Diego. Oregon can buy the northern tier of the state.

California could continue to sell itself until it looks like the District of Columbia with San Francisco at its' core. How much of a budget would it need to keep San Francisco going? Not much, I would hope. Then California would be gone and hopefully its' inefficiencies would become irrelevant. As it is, it's a huge white elephant threatening the cost the rest of the US a fortune.

Then, when New York City gets there, have them sell the whole of upstate New York to form a new state as well and D.C.-ize it as well.

We do not wish for a government that promises to take care of us from cradle to grave while imposing it's will upon us.
